Well, as some of you may be aware, I had reached a point recently where I really needed a break – a proper, relaxing, fun holiday. So when my partner called me and said he’d found a really good deal on some plane tickets to Malaysia…I certainly didn’t need my arm twisted to take him up on the offer. Malaysia had been on my list of places to visit for a long time, and I was very keen to experience the variety the country and culture have to offer.
Now, I’m not going to give you a blow by blow travel log, I might save that for another time, but I am going to share with you what was one of the highlights of the trip for me, a part I had been most looking forward to, and a part that delivered beyond expectations – our stay at the Tanjong Jara Resort, and my treatment at their award winning spa.
Now, here’s a bit of Judi trivia you perhaps didn’t know… I love love love searching for the best quality accommodation and good deals, In fact I get rather excited by the process. So I reveled in conducting extensive research to find just the right kind of place for the coastal escape part of our trip. And after many hours of surfing the net, I concluded that the Tanjong Jara Resort was going to be the winner
And what a winner it was! Upon arrival at the resort, I felt a sense of peace; tranquility and indulgence washed over me immediately. Beautiful staff, a beautiful setting and the accommodation was just gorgeous inside and out. These aspects alone were already having a remarkable effect on my physical and mental stress levels and outlook, but the award winning spa village on premises, which had caught my eye when researching, still beckoned me…
I knew that I NEEDED a top quality spa treatment…and well, with an award winning spa, practically on my doorstep, I felt it would be highly remiss of me not to at least go and check it out…The information brochure certainly was enticing, and I was intrigued by their philosophy and promise of:
‘…unique restorative Malay treatments (which) have been handed down from generation to generation, ensuring their authenticity, and therapeutic value. With a history of more than a thousand years, the practices are believed to have their origins in the convergence of Malay, Arab, Indian and Chinese influences during the days of the Malacca Sultanate’.
So, I wasn’t sure exactly what this might mean in a therapeutic sense but I was more than keen to find out! I wanted to know how that would feel.
Having had my own practice as a clinical masseur for 5 years earlier on in my life, I know tends to make me a little more sensitive in my assessment of any form of body treatment – including the multitude of aspects such as ambience, touch, the practitioners intuitive ability to work on my body and most importantly my overall experience and comfort level from the moment I walk through the door and then feel in the days that follow, which are all markers of a genuine quality treatment. So, although my intention wasn’t to judge, it was after all to relax, I also knew I would be holding them to a pretty high standard.
And I’m extremely happy to report that my experience at the Tanjong Jara Resort Spa Village went down as the best spa treatment I’ve ever had to date!
This was a truly holistic experience and in a class of its own. From the moment you walk through the entrance and are greeted by lush greenery, water features and beautiful, friendly staff, to being ushered to a secluded outdoor area prior to the treatment to enjoy herbal tea, and soak up the peaceful environment, to the rose bath that clients are treated to on their first visit prior to their specific chosen treatment, right throughout the treatment itself, and beyond.
My session took place in what I would describe as a private suite, including a shower, bathroom facilities a gorgeous, large, light filled treatment room, and a pretty little outdoor area where the rose bath was given.
Upon being ushered into this divine suite, I was presented with a sarong to change into in preparation for my rose bath (my Sarong tying skills leave a lot to be desired – so I very gratefully received a sarong tying lesson from my practitioner) Then sitting outside on a stone tablet, my therapist proceeded to give me a rose bath – something which I had never experienced before. And, as I felt the flower infused water cascading down over my sarong clad body I felt cleansed physically, emotionally and mentally, leaving me in the perfect state of readiness to be open to the healing that was to come with the bodywork.
I had opted for the Queens Indulgence treatment – and not just because of the name, even though I am partial to feeling like royalty, but because of the specific areas this package focused on and the various treatment methods. And thus began 100 minutes of sheer bliss and therapy designed to nurture and rebalance body and soul. Now I’m not going to go into details about the treatment, as that was personalized, incorporating multiple modalities, and quite frankly, I let myself drift off onto another plane entirely, a state which was facilitated so well by the preliminary preparation rituals of the spa, the gorgeous, secluded environment, and by the hands of the incredibly talented, and intuitive, practitioner who was working with me.
I was familiar with some of the bodywork she performed because of my background in clinical massage, but there were also several components included in the treatment that were completely new to me – but familiar or unfamiliar, each aspect felt like perfection. The skills and knowledge demonstrated by my therapist were top class, which enabled me to submit completely to the experience with a level of confidence that I rarely experience when receiving bodywork. I had so many sore spots – so many parts of my body that were out of balance – which is unfortunately kind of par for the course when you have an accumulation of stress, and what I was so impressed with, was my practitioner identified these areas and worked on them effectively.
As I left – after having my complimentary sarong tied around me again, because I’d already forgotten how to do it, and I was too spacey to work it out, I felt like I was floating as I walked back to our room along the meandering pathway flanked by lush tropical plants. And I’m pleased to say, that my partner, catching first glimpse of me after my return, said that I was ‘Glowing’. And that feeling of both glowing and floating infused my body and mind over the subsequent days; I experienced a huge release of emotional baggage, my thoughts subsequently became clearer and I became more aware of my body and the feeling of balance returning. My experience at the Tanjong Jara Spa Village and the Tanjong Jara Resort as a whole gave me just what I needed, and just what I had been looking for.
